2M Associates Limited Director, Malachy Martin received the Chartered Institute  of Building Construction Manager of the year award for projects to €15m for the Project Management of the Phoenix Gas HQ and Call Centre in Belfast.

Further to their success in securing licenses to provide infrastructure and natural gas supplies in Northern Ireland Phoenix Natural Gas underwent a period of rapid growth. As a result their staff were located in three geographically disparate office locations. Due to the logistical problems that this gave rise to the company decided to develop a new headquarters building to house their own staff and those employed by their infrastructure partnering contractor.

The new HQ is a low energy building (BREEAM Excellent Rating) in the Harbour Enterprise Park in Belfast's docklands and as such are situated on reclaimed land.

The concrete frame was formed with insitu columns and beams in-filled with bespoke pre-cast coffered units which remain exposed allowing the thermal mass of the structure to be used as part of the mixed mode HVAC system.

The accommodation totaling 50,000 square feet is comprised of:

  • open plan office space
  • cellular offices
  • training/meeting rooms
  • boardroom
  • kitchen and toilets and
  • feature entrance and atrium areas
