The Town Hall was used previously by a large number of community groups for a diverse range of uses incluidng Summer theatres and Irish dancing festivals.

On completion these activities will resume with other uses such as conference facilities being proposed.

The project involved the restoration of the external and internal fabric of a derelict and disused town hall.

Externally brickwork, window, roofing repairs and removal of an out of character extension formed the major elements of the work. There was also an environmental works scheme in the area surrounding the entrance and the statue.

Internally the works included demolitions and re-building to form kitchen and office facilities at basement level, toilets, box office and meeting rooms at ground floor, with further toilet facilities and theatre facilities (including gallery) located on the upper floor.

Reinstatement of the outstanding stairs and balustrades that had been vandalised and/or removed over the years will form an important part of the finishing works.

Redecoration of the building was to be carried out to bring the building back to it's former condition.

The building is designed to be fully DDA compliant on its completion to ensure enjoyment by all sections of the local community and also by the many tourists who visit Portrush.
